The long winding road has come to an end. Rick Santorum has decided to suspend his campaign, basically ending his run for the presidency. Campaign insiders have given me various reasons for pulling out and I believe it was a combination of pressure from the establishment, bad internal numbers in Pennsylvania and lack of funds.
While Santorum wasn't the candidate that I endorsed, I greatly admire him. What seemed a very unlikely shot at the nomination turned into a genuine run because of his grit, hard work, retail politicking and Conservative message. With little money and organization not as intense as Romney's, he kept going and gave the inevitable front-runner a run for his money. The battle between the two has also grown very ugly in recent weeks.
Mitt Romney must make peace with Santorum as well as his supporters, as I know for a fact that many of them are committed Conservatives who are very wary of the former Massachusetts Governor. It's the Conservatives who will win this election for Mitt Romney and he must remember this. It's much easier to go to the polls for voter for someone/something than against someone/something. Conservatives should also make sure they "nudge" Romney to the right, as we've seen it done.
We here at "The 'Right' Solutions" would like to give a tip of cap to Rick Santorum for fighting the good fight. He will not ride into the sunset, as I'm sure we'll hear from him again in the future.
