The left thinks they have their "a-ha moment," the "Republican establishment" thinks they have their "a-ha moment." But do they?
Short answer: NO!
In case you haven't heard, a story broke on Drudge that gave excerpts of Rick Santorum's 2008 speech at Ave Maria University in Florida, where he stated that Satan has his sights on the United States.
The evidence over time is clear. The United States of America has been a force for good in the world; whether beating back Nazism and Fascism in World War II, whether going all-in for the ideological struggle against a Communist Soviet Union, whether freeing nations held hostage by terrorism and sadistic leaders, or whether fighting wars not for territorial gain, but to free the enslaved and imprisoned.
Reagan said it, Bush said it and on September 11th, 2001, the United States of America witnessed it: Satan and his evil exists, and yes, it constantly challenges the United States. The left needs to get used to this and unite Americans in rising up against Satan's evil, while fighting it, instead of hiding from it or denying its existence.
Santorum is responding well, but must remember to stay on offense. As always occurs when articulating Conservatism, this incident is a teachable moment. The question must be answered: Would America be better off with someone in a leadership position warning America against evil or someone endorsing the apparent lie that God should Damn America because she is evil?
The choice is clear to me and should be clear to all Americans. And that clarity scares the heck out of the left!
