Eat Mor Chikin

A popular pattern of the left is that if a person or business doesn't believe in something they do, that non-believer must be embarrassed, harassed and figuratively strangled. This is what they tried to do to Chick-Fil-A because of their CEO's belief that marriage is between a man and a woman; the position of President Obama prior to May of 2012.

As a result of this intimidation, America responded and responded in droves! Former Arkansas Mike Huckabee deemed August 1st to be Chick-Fil-A appreciation day - go to your local Chick-Fil-A and support them with your business. And support they did. Here is one example in New Jersey:

I happened to be near a Chick-Fil-A at the Jersey Shore and heading over there for lunch, I observed the line to be wrapping around the Monmouth Mall food court; more traffic than one would see on Black Friday! I eventually did get to another location to show my support, as I was in a time crunch yesterday afternoon. The scene of lines of people, and at stand-alone locations, drive-thru lines stretching on to the surrounding roadway, was common place. It looks like yesterday was a very good day for the company!

What drove Governor Huckabee into the fray were the comments of Boston's Mayor Tom Menino and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, forcing a company to the government's set belief standard, which will allow them to operate in that city; clearly in violation of the First Amendment, as well as an act of discrimination. The actions are an intimidation tactic used by the left. We're also seeing questionable tactics by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in New York City, trying to persuade NYU to close down the city's only Chick-Fil-A, which is located on their campus. The left is trying to frame this with the issue of gay marriage as the focus, tying in Dan Cathy's consistent religious beliefs (remember, this chain is closed on Sunday, so employees are allowed to worship on the day of the Sabbath) to the phony 'Republican War on the LGBT Community' to benefit Obama. With the turnout the chain received and number of Americans who decided to "Eat Mor Chikin", it's safe to say the left failed. Their planned kiss-ins will fail too.

What we see here is a clear opportunity for Mitt Romney to bring the president into this, framing it with the First Amendment being the central issue. I hope Obama takes the bait, as when he's played the "I'm the smartest guy in the room game" and commented on issues where a president has no need to go, he's stepped in it!

In addition to being a good day for the First Amendment and good chicken, yesterday was also a good day for the grassroots! Warm-up for November? We shall see.
